Alzheimer's Disease Age-Adjusted Death Rate

This indicator shows the age-adjusted death rate per 100,000 population due to Alzheimer's disease, the most common cause of dementia. Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning--thinking, remembering, and reasoning--to such an extent that it interferes with a person's daily life. Nationally, Alzheimer's disease is the 6th leading cause of death among adults aged 18 years and older. People living with dementia are at greater risk for general disability and experience frequent injury from falls. Older adults with dementia are 3 times more likely to have preventable hospitalizations.
